Primitive Presents Justene Jaro in Underwear & Nike Air Max 90 Infrared

Posted by English | Posted on 24-07-2010

One of my all time favotite Nike runners are back once again!!!  As many of you know, The Nike Air Max 90 has become quite the icon since it’s debut in 1990. It is the second running shoe created by Tinker Hatfield that displays a Visible Air Window on it’s exterior. No matter how many times the original Infrared colourway sees a retro release, it’s re-arrival is always welcomed with open arms. Being huge fans of classic runners as well, the peeps at  Primitive decided to offer a tee to go along with the kicks. They recently caught up with the beautiful & curvaceous JUSTENE JARO to join in the fun. They asked her if she was down to pose in underwear & Infrareds, and she was cool with the concept. This is a behind the scenes video from that photo shoot…

What Are We Teaching Our Children About God??

Posted by English | Posted on 22-07-2010

I wouldn’t consider myself an atheist by any means but I’m definitely far from religious. Although I have a high respect for religion and the peace it provides individuals I have always been critical of the interpretation of scripture and the persecution of innocent people on behalf of scripture. I came across this video on my friend Dan’s Facebook page and it made me think about the relevance of religion in our modern world. I truly believe spirituality is a necessity to all those seeking balance and contentment in their lives but is religion? I’m not saying that it time to irradicate religion from society but I do think its time for us to teach our children the difference between scripture and the pure messages found in most religions.

NIKE Presentents: The World Cup 2010 at the Motalban Theatre

Posted by English | Posted on 15-07-2010

Montebaln

After a long awaited 4 years this years 2010 FIFA World Cup, held in South Africa, was far from a disappointment. The tournament ended with a 116th minute goal by Spain’s Andres Iniesta to give his team a 1-0 win and their first ever World Cup title. There were plenty of exciting moments along the way that are definitely worth remembering and i had the privilege of experiencing many of those moments at the Nike World Cup Headquarters at The Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood.

Nike Crowd

Each game I attended at the space was a unique and special experience. As I approached the theatre for each game my eyes and ears were met by a sea of super fans lined up and down the block. Flags were waving, Horns were blaring, whistles were whistling, and hundreds of people were screaming and chanting while being ushered into the space.

Superfans

At each match I met great people from countries all around the world; Spain, Netherlands, Paraguay, Germany, Mexico, Brazil.  The energy and enthusiasm of the fans was unparallelled  by any other sporting experience i have has since the  Giants won the Superbowl. The weight of each countries  pride was evident in the faces of its fans.

Superfans2

Once Inside fans were privy to experience the matches in a truly unique and engaging way. The entire theater was taken over by Nike. Each Nations flag was hung high above the theatre, Nike Soccer jerseys were fitted to block letters on the wall spelling out “Write Your Future” The main lobby area was converted into a bar where they gave away an unlimited supply of San Miguel beer, one of my faves, and occasionally tequila. For the non alcoholic drinkers who attended the far side of the bar free coffee, espresso and tons of complimentary bottled waters and energy drinks. And if the the free beverages weren’t enough each game had free food!!

Inside, the set up was perfect. A packed theatre filled with enthusiastic super fans screaming dressed in there country colors and faces painted waving flags. Watching any sporting event on a 30 foot screen just makes every single game epic. If the seats you wanted were already occupied by drunk raging fans and you were part of the lucky few you to work for the media, be an invited guest of Nillz or so happened to know Emily then you had the option of sitting in the lounge sections towards the rear of the theatre.

thaetre inside

There was  nothing better than watching everyone forget about their  daily problems, put aside their differences and just agree  on something as simple as kicking a ball into the back of  a net. And even if it was just for a couple weeks, this  simple game of soccer showed us that there is hope for all  of us in life, as individuals and as a country. Big shout  outs go to my World Cup 20X crew who atteneded the  matches with me: Tamara Dhia, Tony Flohr, Neran  Dhas, Peter Benedicto, Jenilee Reyes, TK Nyguen, Mark Chinapen and the lovely Emily Shin. And a big shout out to NIKE for creating a great cultural and brand experience.

PS: NIKE_ I really hope you guys do something similar for the upcoming 2011 NBA Playoff Finals featuring the Lakers and the Heat!!!

Road SMS: :Let’s You Text While Walking or Driving

Posted by English | Posted on 13-07-2010

Road SMS You can Text while Walking
This is perfect for textaholics who love to drive and text!! Road SMS, an Android app from the Samsung App Store that you can lets you peer through the camera of your smartphone so you can see what’s coming up while you’re happily texting. The app uses the built-in camera to project an image of what’s in front of you and put it as a background on the screen while you are texting. It looks like an exclusive for Samsung App Store that came pre-installed in the Galaxy S i9000, but this being an Android app I’m sure we’ll start seeing them on other mobile devices soon.

Hilarious BP Spoof: BP Spills Coffee *BP OIL SPILL RECAP

Posted by English | Posted on 02-07-2010

BP OIL SPILL RECAP:

On April 20, 2010, a semi-submersible exploratory offshore drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico exploded after a blowout and sank two days later, killing eleven people and causing a massive oil spill threatening the coast of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, and Florida. The rig is owned and operated by Transocean Ltd on behalf of BP, which is the majority owner of the oil field. At the time of the explosion, there were 126 crew on board; seven were employees of BP, 79 of Transocean, there were also employees of various other companies involved in the operation of the rig, including Anadarko, Halliburton and M-I Swaco. The company originally estimated the size of the leak at about 1,000 barrels a day but later accepted government estimates of a leak of at least 5,000 barrels per day (790 m3/d). Plainly put, Both the goverment and the companies responsible are liars. Steven Wereley, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University, analyzed videotape of the leak using particle image velocimetry and estimated oil flow rates at between 56,000 to 84,000 barrels per day (8,900 to 13,400 m3/d), or equivalent to one Exxon Valdez spill every 3.5 to 2.4 days. A second, smaller leak has been estimated to be releasing 25,000 barrels per day (4,000 m3/d) by itself, suggesting that the total size of the leak may well be in excess of 100,000 barrels per day and became the largest offshore oil spill in US history.

This crisis is no laughing matter. But in attempt to expose the ridiculousness of this situation and the blatant stupidity of BP this hilarious spoof was created. This is what happens when BP Spills Coffee…

2010 FIFA World Cup Guide for Dummies

Posted by English | Posted on 19-06-2010

If your new to the World Cup here’s a great World Cup Guide for Dummies that my boy Riley put me on to:

If your neighbors are painting their faces while drinking and wearing flags — don’t be afraid. It’s the 2010 FIFA World Cup! This international soccer bonanza happens every four years and you are invited! Peep theBVX’s “beautiful game” guide and impress that hottie at the bar with your worldly knowledge.

1. That buzzing noise

The vuvuzela is a plastic trumpet that mimics the sound of a swarm of bees, providing an annoying – or sweet — sound depending on whom you ask. Either way, it’s the World Cup soundtrack, and the instrument is supposedly rooted in African history. Japan has called for FIFA to ban the vuvuzela because it’s disruptive and a University of Pretoria study says repeated exposure to the horns may cause hearing loss since it’s louder than a chainsaw. Earplugs are moving like hot cakes in South Africa.

World Cup Tip: Make your own vuvuzela and get crunk!

2. Rules of the Game

The World Cup occurs every four years and countries must compete for spots in the tournament through qualifying matches. The top 32 teams, including the host team which is automatically qualified, make it into the tournament. Then those teams are broken up into eight groups of four, Group A through H. Each team plays one game against the other three in their pools to gain points. Teams earn three points for a win, one point for a draw and none for a loss. The top two teams in each pool advance to the next stage of the tournament. Then the tournament becomes a knockout or single elimination where the last team standing will be crowned champion.

World Cup Tip: Do a World Cup bracket — it’s March Madness on steroids.

3. No Sex for Some Soccer Players

The English team coach Fabio Capello has banned his players from having sex during the World Cup, claiming it is misdirection of energy that could be used on the field. Four years ago, the English team’s elimination was partially attributed to partying hard with their WAGS (wives and girlfriends). This time, Capello planned on placing video cameras in the players’ hotel rooms to monitor their activities. Players either have to accept Big Brother or become more creative at getting some.

World Cup Tip: Sacrifice one thing — not alcohol, of course — to mentally will your team to win.

4. But Sex for Everyone Else

Prostitutes are reportedly being imported from various countries to satisfy the sexual appetites of World Cup spectators. World Cup organizers estimated that up to 40,000 prostitutes have been recruited, and authorities also fear local children may be lured into the dangerous practice. Paying for sex in a country with the world’s largest HIV population, according to a 2010 progress report by South Africa submitted to UNAIDS, may not be the best decision.

World Cup Tip: Practice safe sex. Well, that’s really just an everyday tip.

5. What to Watch

Catch goalkeeper Tim Howard play defense for USA alongside Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan. Recently, Howard endured a rib injury but x-rays show that nothing was broken, which signals his return in Friday’s (June 18) USA match against Slovenia. Also, keep your eye out for the Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba, a fantastic striker, who sustained a broken arm but made a triumphant return in the second half of a 0-0 draw with Portugal on June 15. Don’t forget to check out those Samba Boys of Brazil, who’ve won the World Cup trophy a record five times. Spain and England still remain favorites among fans but it’s anyone’s guess who will win it all.

World Cup Tip: Pick a favorite player or team and cling loyally.

6. Black Folks are Everywhere

Witness the African Diaspora’s reach by checking out all of the beautiful black people peppered throughout the different teams. Countries like France, Brazil and Germany have players that look just like us but hail from elsewhere. Their language and home may be different but they are still our brothers and sisters with traces back to the Motherland.

World Cup Tip: Pick a team and discover an interesting fact about their nation and how our people arrived there.

7. The Name of the Game

Americans say “soccer,” and everyone else says “football.” Who’s right? The World Cup is truly the world’s sporting event and dons a different name from country to country. New Zealand once used “soccer,” but in 2006, switched to “football” to align themselves with the majority of world. The United States is one of the last countries under the FIFA umbrella holding on to soccer. So make sure you check who you’re talking to and your location when referencing the game’s name.

World Cup Tip: Call “football” the beautiful game for one full day.

8. Root, Root, Root for the Home Team

Six host team have won the World Cup in its 80-year history, with France being the last in 1990. However, home field advantage may mean much for the 83rd ranked South African team. Historically, the furthest an African nation has gone in the tournament is the quarterfinal (Cameroon, 1990 and Senegal 2002), but this year touts a record six African nations participating: South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Cameroon. In 1934, Egypt became the first African qualifier for the World Cup.

World Cup Tip: Choose which African nation you think will go the furthest in the tournament.

9. More Than Just a Game

During the World Cup in Soweto, an impoverished area that was once under apartheid rule, blacks and whites play soccer together and celebrate their team in the streets. Once a two-day truce was declared in the Nigerian civil war to watch soccer great Pelé play. Soccer can also elevate existing tension between countries, like 1969’s 100-hour Soccer War between El Salvador and Honduras, which resulted in thousands of deaths.

World Cup Tip: Befriend someone from another country.

10. Madiba Magic

Nelson Mandela was held for 18 of his 27 years of imprisonment at the infamous Robben Island and forced to watch prison-yard soccer games from his cell windowSouth Africa was also suspended by FIFA 46 years ago for its apartheid regime, which Mandela fought to destroy. Just 16 years after the fall of apartheid, South Africa is hosting the World Cup and Mandela’s unifying presence rules the games, including the soccer stadium inPort Elizabeth that bears his name. Without the work of Mandela, a South African World Cup would not be possible

World Cup Tip: Discover the significance of the name Madiba.

MTV Movie Award Winners

Posted by English | Posted on 07-06-2010

mtvmovieLast night I watched The 19th annual MTV Movie Awards and was pleasantly surprised. The night was was hosted by Aziz Ansari, who killed it!! My favorite Aziz moment was his R Kelly impression which he ended by rightfully giving BP a big F**CK YOU.  Actually  the night was full of cussing, and tons of promotion for The Jersey Shore and wins for the vampires in New Moon. Sandra Bullock accepted the MTV Generation Award by kissing Scarlett Johansson, and cracking jokes with Betty White. Suprisingly the kiss wasnt really that steamy but I still enjoyed the novelty of seeing happen. Christina Aguilera performed, but the highlight of her performance was the blinking heart on her crotch. Tom Cruise did a fun bit with J-Lo and I heard Beyonce won her first MTV Movie Award for Best Fight for her catfight with Ali Larter in last year’s Obsessed, but this wasn’t a televised award. All in all it was a pretty entertaining night. What did you think of the MTV Movie Awards?
